Disable scripts in edit mode on Squarespace [How to activate safe mode]
Sometimes you need to view your Squarespace website in “safe mode”.
What this means is that you disable all of the scripts you have running on your website such as code blocks and embed blocks featuring scripts such as HTML and JavaScript.
Disabling them will simply show the code blocks when you view the website, not the end product of the scripts, allowing you to see exactly where they are, something that’s tricky when you aren’t in “safe mode”
Whilst this is definitely a more advanced requirement, it’s a great tool to have in your back pocket, especially if you’re building larger, code-heavy websites.

Want a framework for designing the perfect homepage?
It couldn’t be easier to enter safe mode. Simply head to the dashboard for your Squarespace website and in the URL add /safe to the end whilst in your editor.
So for instance, your editor URL looks like this:
yoursitetitle.squarespace.com/config
All you need to do is format it as follows:
yoursitetitle.squarespace.com/config/safe
This will disable all of the scripts you have running on your website when you preview the site. The scripts are disabled in the back end for you whilst you’re viewing in safe mode, on the front end for any user who may happen to land on your website however, the scripts will be running as normal.
In all honesty this is a trick aimed mainly at professional Squarespace developers who are just checking something and want to view the website with no code running.
That being said, it’s always useful to have these tricks up your sleeve so be sure to bookmark this article in case you need to return to it in the future!
