If you want to grant someone without a Squarespace subscription access to your Squarespace website before it’s live, they’re going to need a password.

Before your site is live, if you’re granting access to a site and the user doesn’t have their own Squarespace subscription, they will need both the URL and a password to enter.

The good news is that there is a nifty little trick that allows you to add the password for them, meaning you can send just one URL that when they click it, will log them in and take them straight to the website.

This is great as it means you don’t need to worry about remembering to tell whoever it is that you want to look at your site what the password is.

So how do you do that? All you have to do is add the password to the URL. Yes really, it’s that simple.

For example, the URL for my coding examples website is:

code-examples.squarespace.com

But if I want to send someone without a subscription the link to access the website before it’s live, I would simply add the password (in this case, pass) to the URL:

code-examples.squarespace.com/?password=pass

Side note, I recommend using a much more secure password than pass, this is just an example for this tutorial.

And there you have it, an easy way to send users a link to your website without them needing to add a password to see it. Bear in mind this only works for the homepage, if you want to send users the URL to a specific page then they will need to add the password themselves.
