They help streamline navigation, improve user experience, and keep your site structured efficiently.

Why Use Dropdown Menus?

  • Improve Navigation: Group related pages under a single menu item.

  • Enhance User Experience: Keep menus clean and avoid overwhelming visitors.

  • Organize Your Backend: Manage pages efficiently, especially for larger sites.

Step-by-Step Guide: Creating a Dropdown Menu

1. Accessing the Pages Menu

  • Log in to your Squarespace dashboard.

  • Click on Pages to access your site's structure.

2. Adding a Dropdown Menu

  • In the Main Navigation section, click the + button.

  • Select Dropdown (previously called "Folders").

  • Give your dropdown a name, e.g. Company.

3. Adding Pages to the Dropdown

  • Drag and drop existing pages into the dropdown.

  • For example:

    • About

    • FAQs

  • Once added, your menu structure will automatically update.

Organizing Your Pages in the Backend

Dropdown menus are also useful for backend organization. If you have a lot of pages, keeping them structured ensures better site management.

1. Creating a Backend Pages Folder

  • Add a new dropdown and name it e.g. Legal Pages.

  • Drag in relevant pages such as:

    • Privacy Policy

    • Terms of Service

2. Managing SEO & Not Linked Pages

If you have location-based or industry-specific SEO pages, you can group them into separate dropdowns for better management.

  • Create a dropdown named Location-Based SEO.

  • Add relevant pages inside.

  • Similarly, create a dropdown for Industry-Specific SEO Pages.

This helps prevent the Not Linked section from becoming cluttered, making your backend easier to navigate.

Final Thoughts

A well-structured menu improves both the user experience and backend management of your Squarespace site. Whether you're grouping legal pages, SEO pages, or general content, dropdown menus help keep everything neat and accessible.
